On 14th May 1999, all the Knanaya families in Al Ain came together at Mr. Thomas Stephen Pulinthotty’s residence, to realize the idea of a traditional union of Knanaya families who lived in Al Ain, the Garden City of the UAE. KCC-UAE Chief Coordinator Mr. Abraham Naduvathara, Prof. Babu Poozhikunnel (Chief Guest), Presidents of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah units and other KCC-UAE committee members were present to witness this auspicious moment and to address the family members. At this meeting, the first committee of the Al Ain Knanaya family unit was formed under the leadership of Mr. Thomas Stephen Pulinthotty. From there on all succeeding Al Ain committee members have been working for the betterment of this unit. Al Ain unit used to organize all community and cultural celebrations, family member’s get together and organize seminars and programs for the children. The Al Ain Knanaya Unit is rich with art & sports groups such as Chenda, tug-of-war, cricket, drama and dance. Family prayers have been held in members homes, every month since year 2012.

The sacramental needs of this community are held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Al Ain . Our family members are represented on the working committees of this Church. At the same time, we continue to take an active part in all the economic and cultural activities of the Church while maintaining the integrity of our community.

The group has been helping financially distressed families in our home country and carrying out activities such as housing, educational and health care assistance. The beneficiaries appreciated the coordinated efforts of the Unit to help those who lost everything in the floods in Kerala in year 2018 and 2019.Dr. Jinoy Kavalakkal from Al Ain Unit has served as the Chairman of KCC-UAE from year 2013-2014 and Prince Lukose Puthiyakunnel is continuing as the Treasurer of KCC-UAE from year 2018.

It is with great pride that in year 2014, for the first time in Al Ain’s history, the annual meeting of the KCC-UAE was hosted by Al Ain Unit and it turned out to be a huge success. It was a momentous occasion that brought together the members of the Al Ain family headed by George Kurian Poothrukayil. On 28th November 2014, Auxiliary Bishop of Kottayam, Mar Joseph Pandarasseril inaugurated the Annual Sanagamam in the presence of a gathering of over 800 members from all Units in UAE at the Al Ain Rotana Hotel. The former Presidents of the Unit were honored at this function, which was enriched by colorful art and cultural events from all six (6 No.) Units under KCC-UAE.

Today, in the midst of this COVID-19 Pandemic & continued global crisis, a committee headed by Dileep Jose Thadathiparambil is looking after the welfare of all family members and providing all necessary assistance. The committee is now able to hold monthly family meetings and other activities and celebrations online without interruption.
