QATAR KNANAYA CULTURAL ASSOCIATION (QKCA)

Qatar is home to one of the largest Indian expatriate communities, with a significant number of people originating from Kerala. Qatar provides people of different nationalities and faiths with the freedom to live in peace and harmony while practicing their beliefs with mutual respect.

The Knanaya Catholic community in Qatar nurtures its spiritual life through the pastoral care provided by St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Church, Our Lady of the Rosary Latin Church, and St. Mary’s Syro-Malankara Church. QKCA works in close harmony with these churches to promote the spiritual, cultural, social, and family well-being of the Knanaya community.

Established in 1991, the Qatar Knanaya Cultural Association (QKCA) is a non-profit cultural and social organization formed to unite Knanaya families living in Qatar. QKCA is an Affiliated Organization of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), under the aegis of the Embassy of India, Qatar.

Today, QKCA proudly serves over 900 members, including adults and children from Knanaya families living across Qatar. The Association serves as a vibrant platform dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage, traditions, faith, culture, and values of the Knanaya community while fostering unity, friendship, leadership, and mutual support among its members.

Guided by its Constitution and By-laws, QKCA organizes a wide range of cultural, educational, sports, social, charitable, spiritual, and family-oriented activities throughout the year. The Association is committed not only to preserving the unique identity of the Knanaya community but also to promoting the physical, mental, social, cultural, and spiritual well-being of its members.

Several active groups function under the umbrella of QKCA, serving different sections of the community:

  • Pius X Prayer Unit – The official prayer group of the Knanaya Catholic community in Qatar, promoting spiritual growth and faith formation.
  • QKCYL (Qatar Knanaya Catholic Youth League) – Encourages leadership, faith, community service, and active participation among the youth.
  • QKWCA (Qatar Knanaya Women’s Cultural Association) – Empowers women through fellowship, cultural activities, charitable initiatives, and personal development.
  • QKMAT (Qatar Knanaya Medical Aid Team) – Coordinates medical assistance and welfare initiatives, providing support during illness, emergencies, and other healthcare-related needs.
  • QKCA Children’s Club – Organizes educational, cultural, recreational, and talent-development activities that help children strengthen their confidence, talents, and cultural identity.

Community welfare has always been one of QKCA’s core priorities. The Association extends financial, emotional, and practical support to members during times of illness, bereavement, and other difficult circumstances. It also undertakes charitable initiatives beyond Qatar, including supporting underprivileged families and sponsoring housing projects for deserving members of the Knanaya community in Kerala.

Every year, QKCA organizes major events such as Onam Celebration, Family Picnic, Sports Day, Annual Day, Christmas and New Year Celebrations, along with a variety of cultural, educational, sports, and family programs that bring together members of all generations, strengthen community bonds, and celebrate the rich heritage of the Knanaya community.

Over the years, the dedicated service of its Presidents, Executive Committees, volunteers, and members has helped QKCA grow into a vibrant and respected community organization. The Association continues to preserve Knanaya heritage, strengthen family values, nurture future leaders, encourage social responsibility, and serve the community with dedication, compassion, and unity.

For over 35 years, the Qatar Knanaya Cultural Association (QKCA) has remained a proud symbol of unity, heritage, faith, friendship, and service. The Association continues to bring together Knanaya families across Qatar by preserving their rich traditions, promoting cultural values, strengthening community bonds, and serving its members with dedication and compassion.
